MLA Van Bibber Welcomes Restoration of Full Postal Service in Dawson

WHITEHORSE – MLA Geraldine Van Bibber is expressing her thanks and appreciation for the restoration of full postal service in Dawson City.

As a result of staffing issues that were in part caused by the pandemic, postal service in Dawson City was reduced by cutting service on Saturdays. As the Yukon Party critic for Small Business and Tourism and a born and raised Dawsonite, Van Bibber had heard from several community members and businesses about the impact of reduced services and committed to raise the issue on behalf of Dawson residents.

To that end, she introduced a motion in the Yukon Legislative Assembly and wrote to the federal Minister responsible for Canada Post to raise the issue and ask that full service be restored in Dawson City.

Recently, MLA Van Bibber has heard back from officials, as well as MP Brendan Hanley that full postal service for Dawson City, including Saturday service, will be restored as of April 20, 2024.

“Reliable postal service is especially important for residents and businesses living in rural and remote communities, and any cutback in service can have a big impact,” said Van Bibber. “I would like to thank Minister Jean-Yves Duclos and MP Brendan Hanley for responding positively to my suggestion that full postal service be restored in Dawson City. Furthermore, I’d like to thank the residents and businesses that brought this to my attention.”
